West Virginia 5, Savannah 3
West Virginia rallied from a two-run deficit and three relievers held Savannah scoreless over the final five innings as the Power defeated the visiting Sand Gnats 5-3 on Thursday night.
The Pittsburgh Pirate affiliate won for the second straight night. Savannah (10-14) will try to avoid the sweep tonight in the series finale at 7:05. The Sand Gnats led 3-1 after a run-scoring single by Jorge Rivero and a bases loaded walk by Brandon Nimmo in the fourth inning, but West Virginia retailiated with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
The tying runs came home on Walker Gourley’s single and a throwing error by Nimmo in center field. Gourley scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Gnats starting pitcher Marcos Camarena.
The Power didn’t need any more runs. Relievers Lance Breedlove, Ciario Perez and Jhondaniel Medina surrendered only two hits the rest of the way while combining to strike out seven. Breedlove (3-2) was the winning pitcher and Medina notched his second save.
Camarena (4-1) took the loss for the Gnats.
