John Gant Wins Seventh of the season

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets played a double-header Thursday at Grayson Stadium.  Savannah won the first game 3-2, and won the second game 6-0, as both Sand Gnat starters pitched complete games.

Robert Gsellman pitched the first game picking up his fourth win of the season.  He pitched all eight innings of the first game allowing two runs on five hits, walking one and striking out four.

Augusta scored a run in the third inning when designated hitter Ryan Tuntland drew a walk.  After a hit batter and a fielder’s choice later, Tuntland was on third and would score on a RBI single by Ryder Jones.  Tyler Horan would hit his sixth home run of the season for Augusta in the fourth inning for the GreenJackets second and final run of the game.

Savannah would get on the board in the fourth inning when Gavin Cecchini led off the inning with a triple, and would score on a Jeff McNeil single.  Cecchini would score the Sand Gnats second run in the sixth inning after hitting a double.  He was driven in later in the inning.

Jon Leroux would get the game-winning hit in the eighth inning scoring L.J. Mazzilli.

John Gant started the second game and had a stellar performance, pitching a complete game shutout.  Gant would go seven innings giving up six hits with five strikeouts.  It was Gant’s seventh win of the season, and with the shutout his ERA dropped to a league-leading 2.12.

Savannah would score two runs in the first inning on RBI singles by Mazzilli and Leroux.  They would add more runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings enroute to the win.

The announced attendance was 2,303.

Game three of the series starts at 7:05 PM on Friday at Grayson Stadium.
