Sand Gnats Win On 9th Inning Bases Loaded Walk

Game one of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played in front of 876 fans Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium.

Fans saw an exciting and strange finish to the 3:54 hour game. With Charleston leading 8-6, Savannah won the game in the 9th inning.

Savannah scored their first run in the first inning when center fielder Champ Stuart tripled and scored on a ground out.

In the second inning for Savannah, second baseman Jorge Rivero walked and Cruzado hit a home run over the left field fence, his 5th of the season.

Charleston scored in their third inning when Michael O’Neil doubled, went to third on a ground out and scored on a sac fly. The RiverDogs scored three runs in the 4th inning and one run in the 5th inning.

Going into the 9th inning, Charleston trailed 6-5 and scored three runs on a home run over the right field fence by second baseman Gosuke Katohto take the lead, 8-6.

The three runs were scored off Sand Gnat reliever, Akeel Morris, pitching the 9th inning, even though walked away with the victory and improved to 4-0.

For the Gnats, two runs scored on throwing errors by the shortstop and the right fielder. Then with the bases loaded right fielder Victor Cruzado walked on four pitches and the winning run scored. It was the 5th straight win for Savannah.

For Savannah, Cruzado was 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI’s and first baseman Dominic Smith was 4-for-4.
