Las Vegas 11, Reno 1

The legend of Las Vegas rang true for at least one team on the baseball diamond on Thursday evening as the 51s went off for 11 runs in this one, off the strength of three home runs. Josh Satin provided one of them, a solo shot in the fourth inning, and continued his hot hitting. Brandon Hicks and Brian Bixler also went deep in this affair — and Wilmer Flores drove in three runs off two doubles.

It was over before it started, however, when Las Vegas scored six times in the first frame. Four hits, including a home run each from Bixler and Hicks, two walks, and a passed ball and wild pitch all combined for a hectic inning that resulted in the 51s taking a 6-0 lead going into the second.

Chris Schwinden responded well to his run support and pitched into the seventh inning. He allowed just one earned run, a home run to Kila Ka’aihue in the sixth, before being pulled. He allowed ten hits overall but only permitted the one run to cross the plate. Sean Henn and Armando Rodriguez combined to finish off the game for him.

D.J. Mitchell is scheduled to pitch tomorrow.
