The third game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 1,346 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.
Rome out hit Savannah 15-11 and came away with their first win of the series, 7-3.
In the first inning, the Braves loaded the bases and a double by left fielder Joey Meneses scored three runs. They would tack on two more runs in the 3rd inning when Braves catcher Victor Caratini singled and DH A.J. Kirby-Jones followed by a home run over the right field fence, which was his third home run of the season. The Braves would also score single runs in the 8th and 9th innings.
The Sand Gnats scored their first run in the 2nd inning when first baseman Dominic Smith walked and eventually reached third base and scored when hot hitting shortstop Gavin Cecchini hit into a double play; Smith scored before the third out was made.
In the 3rd inning, the Gnats scored their second run on a walk to L.J. Mazzilli, who then advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and scored on a double by Jared King, who was batting DH. The final run was scored in the 9th inning when center fielder Patrick Biondi doubled, advanced to third on a single by third baseman Jeff McNeil and scored on a Mazzilli sac fly.
