Game three of the series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 1,188 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.
Fans saw plenty of hitting and run scoring, with both teams combining for 31 hits and 27 runs. Savannah came out on top 15-12.
Rome got off to a fast start in the first inning scoring five runs on one hit, three walks, and two hit batsmen.
Savannah would score two runs in the bottom of the first closing the gap slightly. Champ Stuart doubled and would later score on a single by Dominic Smith. Cole Frenzel would follow that up with a double of his own scoring Smith.
The Sand Gnats would add single runs in the second and third innings before scoring two in the fourth to tie the game 6-6-6.
Savannah would erupt for eight runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a double and a grand slam by Matt Oberste. It was his first home run of the season.
Rome rallied in their half of the ninth inning scoring six runs on five hits, but it wouldn’t be enough.
