Game one of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium.
With the score tired at 3-3 going into the 9th inning, Augusta scored two runs and held on to win the game 5-3.
Augusta scored their first run in the 2nd inning when Craig Massoni singled, stole second and scored on a single by Ryan Tuntland.
Savannah tied the game in their 2nd inning when leading off the inning, Jon Leroux hit a home run over the left field fence, his 4th home run this season.
With the bases loaded in the 5th inning for Augusta, catcher Tyler Ross drove in a run with a sac fly to center field.
In the 7th inning, Savannah scored two runs. Nelfi Zapata singled and scored on a double by Jorge Rivero. A pass ball advanced Rivero to third base and he scored on a single by Yeixon Ruiz.
Augusta scored one run in the 7th inning and two runs in the 9th inning.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Robert Whalen, pitched 6.2 innings, allowed three runs on five hits, walked two, and struck out seven.
John Mincone pitched 2.1 innings, allowed two runs on seven hits, no walks, and struck out three. With the loss, Mincone is 2-2.
The announced attendance was 1,157.
Game two of the series starts at 7:05 pm Wednesday at Grayson Stadium.

The goal of the league is to mimic real life as close as possible. Also this league is VERY intense. We have very active and knowledgeable owners. As you can imagine you need to be update to date about every single player in professional baseball and you also must log into the site at least once every 24 hours. This league is a 365 day commitment. If you think this is beyond what you can commit to a league it will save us and you time to just let us know ahead of time. If you think this would be a great fit for you and you welcome the challenge, then great!
We are in the middle of our first year and are currently in the middle of our AMAT draft.
We have teams available that are leading their division and most likely going to get a playoff spot and we have teams that aren’t doing that great and may need some rebuilding. Regardless we have a few teams available that will most likely fit your preference.
