Savannah’s Streak Reaches Seven Straight Losses

Game two of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium.

Savannah rallied in the 8th inning, scoring four runs but lost to Augusta 5-4. Sand Gnats have lost seven straight games.

Augusta starter, Chase Johnson (W,4-7),  was stellar pitching seven shutout innings, allowed four singles, walked one, and struck out nine.

In the 2nd inning, Augusta scored three runs on two singles and two doubles.

Augusta scored two runs in the 3rd inning. Catcher Tyler Ross walked and scored on a double by Scott Price.  After a throwing error, Price then scored the second run in the inning.

Savannah scored four runs in the 8th inning. Patrick Biondi walked. Champ Stuart reached base on a fielders choice and stole second base. Jon Leroux reached base on a throwing error by the third baseman, allowing Biondi and Stuart to score. Victor Cruzado doubled driving in Leroux and pinch hitter Jorge Rivero singled to score Cruzado.

The Sand Gnats had seven hits for the game and Ruiz was 3-for-5.

Savannah pitching: Octavio Acosta, took the loss by tossing six innings, allowing five runs on five hits, walking four and striking out five. Dawrin Frias tossed two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out two and Akeel Morris threw one inning and struck out two batters.

The announced attendance was 1,266

The final game of the three game series starts at 7:05pm Thursday at Grayson Stadium.
