Arizona Fall League (AFL)

Scottsdale Scorpions (9-11) 6, Salt River Rafters (12-8) 5 Box Score

  • SS Andres Gimenez: 2-for-5, R, K | .340 AVG/.920 OPS
  • 2B Luis Carpio: 0-for-3, R, BB, 2 K | .238 AVG/.666 OPS
  • Ali Sanchez: 2-for-3, R, 2B, RBI(3) | .217 AVG/606 OPS
  • LHP David Peterson: 2.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 K, 3 BB | 0-1, 3.46 ERA, 2.00 WHIP

It was an extremely rough night for Peterson as he struggled with the command of his fastball. Despite missing plenty of bats (13.1% Swinging Strike), Peterson only threw 35 of his 61 pitches for strikes (57%) and consistently left pitches out in the middle of the plate leading to eleven base-runners in only 2.2 innings pitched. The damage could have been much worse had it not been for some excellent defensive throws from his battery mate Ali Sanchez who threw out Geraldo Perdomo trying to steal twice and picked off Luke Raley.

Offensively, Gimenez was once again in the lead-off spot for the Scorpions and continued his excellent season with two more base hits and a run scored. He would have added an RBI to his tally as well but Sanchez was thrown out trying to score from second base on Gimenez’s single to right field in the seventh inning. Sanchez would make up for it though in the bottom of the eighth inning driving in a run of his own with a bases loaded sacrifice fly as part of a three run go-ahead rally for the Scorpions.

Liga de Beisbol Dominicano (LIDOM)

Gigantes del Cibao 3, Tigres del Licey 2 Box Score

Alcantara, and the rest of the Tigres offense as a whole, has not started the season well. Collectively as a team, they have a .211 AVG/.654 OPS to start the season.
