St. Lucie Mets (11-7)

at

Charlotte Stone Crabs (9-9)

Hitting the road after taking two of three against Bradenton at home, the St Lucie Mets find themselves alone in first place in their division. Tomas Nido (.320/352/.732) has continued his hot hitting along with the suddenly patient Amed Rosario (.301/.329/.529) and the solid return of Wuilmer Becerra (.300/.333/.350) the St Lucie offense is clicking. One has to wonder how much longer Rosario will be in Florida as he continues to rake, and Binghamton continues to struggle.

The Mets will be facing who appears the next in the long line of Rays top shelf pitching prospects Brent Honeywell. There is the enigmatic Justin Williams who is said to have plus raw power, but has less than 50 walks in over 1000 PA. One thing is definite, they will keep Nido and company plenty busy behind the plate, the Stone Crabs love to run, with 39 stolen base attempts on the season thus far.

Things to watch keep an eye on:

  • How will the St. Lucie hitters fare against a Stone Crabs pitching staff that has 1.98 ERA and has given up a league best only five homeruns.
  • Can the Stone Crabs manufacture runs, they come into the series with only 27 extra base hits which is the second fewest in the Florida State League.
  • St. Lucie catcher Nido has thrown out 31 percent of runners trying to steal in 2016 while the Stone Crabs have swiped 26 bases, second most in the league.
  • The Mets have gone 4-0 on the road to start the season and Charlotte has gone only 3-3 at home.
