With an 8-4 loss to Fresno on Monday night, Las Vegas split the four game series, closing out the brief first home stand of the season. Right-hander Matthew Bowman started for the 51s and was hit hard out of the gate. He surrendered 3 runs on 5 consecutive hits in the first inning. Bowman continued to struggle through 4 innings, giving up 6 runs on 12 hits, including 2 home runs.

The 51s were stymied by Fresno starter Thomas Shirley who gave up only 2 hits and 2 runs, 1 earned, and struck out 4 in 5.2 innings.

Second baseman Dilson Herrera provided the only offensive highlights for Vegas going 3-5 with a home run, his first of the season, and 2 RBI.

In Sunday’s game, Las Vegas banged out 13 hits, beating Fresno by a score of 10-5. Rafael Montero started and went 2.2 innings, giving up 2 runs, 1 earned. After John Church came in to close out the third, Steven Matz took over as it was his regular day to pitch. Matz went 5 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits, striking out 5 to earn the win.

Also on Sunday, two players got the call to the big leagues due to Mets injuries. Catcher Kevin Plawecki and relief pitcher Hansel Robles will join the Mets for their series against Atlanta. Plawecki will take over as starting catcher from Travis d’Arnaud who has a fractured hand after being hit by a pitch. Left-handed reliever Jerry Blevins was struck by a batted ball and has a fractured forearm. The right-handed Robles will fill the spot in the bullpen.

Las Vegas split the first two games of the series as well, losing 11-10 on Friday and winning 17-4 on Saturday night. Monday night marked the first game the 51s did not score in the double digits on the home stand.

Coming up, the 51s will head to Reno for 4 games against the Aces before returning home to face Albuquerque on Saturday.
