The Mets have begun to make their minor league cuts in preparation of the draft and short-season leagues next week, as they cut ties with three players on Wednesday. LHP Sixto Torres, C Dionis Rodriguez, and 2B Miguel Patino were the first casualties.

Torres was the most notable name to be released, as the Mets decided to part ways with the southpaw after only one full season. Selected in the 17th round of the 2015 draft from Faith Baptist Christian High School in Brandon, FL, Torres debuted professionally that year in the Gulf Coast League, before making seven starts for the Kingsport Mets in 2016. Torres was effective with a low-90s fastball that reached 94 mph, along with a plus change-up and a promising curveball.

The 21-year-old was 6-6 with a 2.50 ERA in 21 appearances (nine starts) in the organization.

Rodriguez, signed for $185,000 in the 2011-12 international signing period from the Dominican Republic, spent two seasons with the DSL Mets before coming stateside in 2014. The 22-year-old was a member of the Kingsport Mets for the last two years, where he hit .184 with two home runs and 25 runs batted in.

In 499 career at-bats, Rodriguez hit .220/.343/.311 with four home runs and 71 RBI. Behind the dish, he threw out 52% (88-170) of would-be basestealers.

Patino, a native of Venezuela, was signed for $135,000 on July 2, 2012, the same day that the Mets inked Amed Rosario to a record deal. He spent nearly three seasons in the Dominican Summer League, although Patino did receive a call-up and the end of the 2015 season to the GCL Mets, where he would play in 2016. Last season, Patino, who played every position except pitcher, catcher, and center field in his career, hit .268 with a rough .061 ISO.

In four minor league seasons, Patino hit .273/.323/.331 with one home run and 46 RBI.
