Baseball America has named Dominic Smith as the 15th best prospect in the Eastern League this season.  Smith’s inclusion on this list is all the more incredible when you consider he was the youngest player to play a complete season in the Eastern League.

One of the main reasons Smith was put on this list was he started hitting for power. In June, he hit .269/.340/.430 with five doubles, three homers, and 18 RBI. From July 1st until the end of the season, he hit .348/.429/.525 with 13 doubles, one triple, seven homers, and 40 RBI. For the season, Smith hit .302/.367/.457 with 29 doubles, two triples, 14 homers, and 91 RBI.

In addition to Smith’s developing power, he continued his slick fielding at first base. Between Smith’s bat and his glove, he would earn his way onto the roster for Team USA at the Future’s Game, and he would be the only player to play the entire game. Notably, Smith was named as Met’s Minors second best prospect.

Smith was joined on Baseball America’s Top 20 Eastern League prospects list by teammate Amed Rosario, who was ranked seventh.
