St. Lucie 2, Charlotte 1

St. Lucie was facing elimination from the playoffs this week, but last night they completed a dramatic three game sweep against the first place Charlotte Stone Crabs to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.

Hansel Robles delivered eight strong innings last night’s in St. Lucie’s 2-1 win over Charlotte.  Robles allowed just one run and three hits and struck out four in what was probably his best outing of the season.  Robles yielded the first run of the game in the top of the first on a RBI ground out by Drew Vettleson, but he dominated the rest of the way.

St. Lucie’s offense struggled against Charlotte’s starter, Jacob Partridge and reliever Lenny Linsky, but they managed to produce enough runs to pull out the victory. In the 5th inning, Kyle Johnson singled, stole a base, and scored on a fielding error by Jeff Malm to tie the game 1-1.  The game remained tied at 1-1 all the way to the 10th inning. With Cam Maron standing at 2nd base and one out, Charlotte’s reliever Matt Ramsey was trying to intentionally walk Jayce Boyd, but he threw a wild pitch on ball four, which allowed Maron to advance to third. Rylan Sandoval was the next batter, and he delivered the game winning RBI on a sac fly to left field.

St. Lucie will play the Jupiter Hammerheads in final series of the season.  The scheduled starter for St. Lucie will be Alex Panteliodis.
