The St. Lucie Mets announced their staff for the 2022 season on Thursday with a new skipper ready to lead the Mets Low-A affiliate. It’s an entirely new staff for St Lucie, though there’s plenty of familiar faces from the Mets organization.
Here’s the coaching staff:
- Robbie Robinson – manager
- Victor Ramos – pitching coach
- Victor Burgos – hitting coach
- Gilbert Gomez – bench coach
- Bryce Wheary – development coach
Robinson, 33, moves to his first full season gig in his second season with the Mets organization. In 2021, the former college coach was a manager in the Florida Complex League for the Mets.
Before joining the Mets, Robinson spent three seasons in the Twins organization as a rookie level manager. Robinson also worked as an associate scout for the Orioles for three years and held various coaching positions in the college ranks over seven seasons.
The 40-year-old Ramos joins St. Lucie after being a pitching coach in the Dominican Summer League in 2021 for the Mets. Players and other coaches rave about his ability to translate information into helping pitchers improve.
Burgos, 34, is a newcomer to the Mets organization following time as a hitting coach in Indy Ball. He’s also been the lead instructor at the D-Bat Academies that’s main location is in Dallas, Texas.
Gomez started with the Mets organization way back in 2009 as a player after signing as an international free agent. The former outfielder is now in his fifth season as a coach and his second straight serving as Robinson’s bench coach.
Wheary begins his second season with the Mets after serving as the player development associate for High-A Brooklyn in 2021.
Kiyoshi Tada will serve as the St. Lucie trainer and Kory Wan will be the performance coach.
The St. Lucie Mets are scheduled to start their 2022 season on April 8th and their first home game of the season is on April 12th.
