Thursday was a bullpen day for the St. Lucie Mets and five pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout of the Dunedin Blue Jays in a 3-0 win at First Date Field.

Jake Simon, Darwin Ramos, Yeizo Campos, Carlos Hernandez and Ezequiel Zabaleta combined for 13 strikeouts in the victory.

Simon, making his first start of the season, pitched the first three innings. He struck out three, gave up one hit and did not walk a batter. Below is video of one of his strikeouts.

Darwin Ramos followed with 2.1 scoreless innings and was credited with the victory. Ramos now has a 0.55 ERA in 16.1 innings this year for St. Lucie. Below is video of Ramos recording one of his three strikeouts in the win.

Campos later stranded the based loaded in the sixth to keep the Mets up 3-0. He contributed 1.1 innings of work.  Below is video of one of Campos two strikeouts on the night.

Hernandez got the last out of the seventh and recorded a clean eighth during this appearance with one strikeout.

Zabaleta struck out the side in a perfect ninth to improve to 5-for-5 in save opportunities. He has a combined 1.69 ERA in 37.1 innings this year between Columbia and St. Lucie. He has 41 strikeouts and only seven walks in that span. Below is video of the final out to clinch the victory.

The Mets scored the only run they needed in the second inning. Mitch Ghelfi hit a two-out triple off of Dunedin’s Turner Larkins and Matt Winaker followed with a RBI single. Below is video of the run scoring hit.

Blake Tiberi hit a RBI double, his team-leading 20th of the season, to bring home Edgardo Fermin in the third for a 2-0 lead.

Jeremy Vasquez extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a RBI single that scored Jacob Zanon in the fifth.

The Mets have won all three series they’ve played in the second half. At 8-2 they have the FSL’s best second half record.

The Mets (8-2, 40-36) continue their home stand on Friday when they welcome the Clearwater Threshers to town. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
