St. Lucie 9, Brevard County 3

St Lucie extended their winning streak to seven games in last night’s 9-3 win over the Brevard County Manatees. Hansel Robles started for St. Lucie and yielded three runs and 7 hits in 5.2 innings pitched. Robles cruised through the first four innings without allowing a run, but he allowed a run in the 5th and two runs in the 6th before being taken out of the game with two outs in the 6th.  Randy Fontanez pitched in relief for Robles, and was fantastic. Fontanez allowed no runs and no hits in 2.1 innings pitched while striking out five.

Offensively, Dustin Lawley and Kyle Johnson were the biggest contributors in St. Lucie’s 9 run outburst.  Lawley collected three hits in five at bats, and drove in two. Kyle Johnson, who was acquired in a trade for Collin Cowgill, walked twice, stole a base, and drove in two runs on a key RBI double in the 8th that extended St Lucie’s lead to 6-3. Gilbert Gomez also contributed with two hits and a walk, and Yucary De la Cruz drove in two runs and walked twice.

St Lucie will look to keep their winning streak going tomorrow in the second game of the series tomorrow against the Brevard County Manatees.  Matthew Bowman will be the starter for St. Lucie, and he will face off against Manatees starter, Chad Pierce.
