2-1-0.  That’s the run output allowed by Binghamton Met pitchers in their three game series in Harrisburg.  Steven Matz and Randy Fontanez combined to throw a 4-hit, 3-0,  shutout over the Senators on Sunday as the B-Mets won the rubber game of the three game set.

Matz worked seven innings throwing 103 pitches and yielding all four Senator hits.  The B-Met left-hander struck out five and walked two while lowering his earned run average to 2.48.

Fontanez finished up with a perfect two innings to earn his first save.  The Binghamton reliever retired three Senators on strikeouts and three on ground ball outs.

Binghamton put together a pair of extra base hits to score their first run in the third.  Wilfredo Tovar led off lacing a double to right field.  Then Brandon Nimmo’s two-out triple plated Tovar for the games first run.

Three consecutive Binghamton hits in the visitor’s fourth inning helped manufacture the final two runs of the game.  Travis Taijeron started the assault ripping a one out double to left field.  T.J. Rivera followed with a single to left field scoring Taijeron.  Xorge Carrillo made it three hits in a row, lining a single to right field with Rivera hustling to third.  Rivera tagged and scored when Tovar lifted a fly ball to center field in the next at bat.

Nimmo had two hits and a walk for Binghamton.  After a slow start in the batter’s box, the young center fielder’s batting average continues to creep higher reaching .236.  More impressive is Nimmo’s plate discipline.  The base-on-balls was Nimmo’s 30th since arriving in Binghamton against 36 strikeouts.  Nimmo’s on-base-percentage is a .362.

Rivera continues to rake at the plate with a team leading .341 batting average.

In winning, Binghamton continues to gain ground on first place Portland moving within two games of the Sea Dogs and only one game behind in the loss column.  The B-Mets are now playing .600 baseball, 24 games above .500.
