T.J. Rivera Stays Hot, Asdrubal Cabrera Plays Shortstop Again

For the third straight game, Asdrubal Cabrera was at shortstop and batting second for the Leones del Caracas. The Leones won last night 5-2 but are still down 3-2 in their first round playoff series against the Navegantes del Magallanes. Cabrera went 1 for 5 with a run batted in and is now hitting .278 (5 for 14 when playing SS) during postseason play.

Wuilmer Becerra started the game on the bench for the second straight night as the Tigres de Aragua lost 7-1 putting them in a must-win situation. They trail the Bravos de Margarita 3-2 in the best-of-7 series with the next game coming on Saturday night. He did come in the game as a defensive replacement in the 7th inning and popped out in his only at bat.

The Indios de Mayaguez (2-2) blew out the Criollos de Caguas (2-1) by a score of 11-1 last night in the Puerto Rican League playoffs. T.J. Rivera batted cleanup and played third base for the Indios going 2 for 5 with a double, run scored, and two RBI. He is now 6 for 15 (.400) with three walks during the playoffs. Johnny Monell was 0 for 1 with a walk as the manager pulled his regulars early in the lopsided game. Monell is hitting .375 during the playoffs after hitting .268/.388/.423 in 34 games during the regular season.

The Dominican Winter League was off last night and the rest of the playoff series in the Mexican League were wrapped up with the Aguilas de Mexicali (Xorge Carrillo) advancing to the second round. Check out the winter ball recap from Thursday that includes Rafael Montero.
