During the Scottsdale Scorpions 5-4 win against the Peoria Javelinas, Mets left field prospect Tim Tebow injured his knee attempting a pop up slide in a fourth inning stolen base attempt.  While Tebow will need further examination, according to ESPN‘s Adam Rubin, the initial examination has led Mets officials to believe Tebow’s knee injury was not serious.

Tebow now joins Gavin Cecchini as another Mets prospect injured during the Arizona Fall League season. Cecchini had fouled a ball off his foot during last Thursday’s game. It’s unknown when either Cecchini or Tebow can return to action.

Prior to the injury, Tebow had been one for two in the game while playing alongside fellow Mets prospect Champ Stuart. For his part, Stuart’s bat cooled off in this game. Stuart’s 0-3 was his first hitless game in an Arizona Fall League game this season. Still, Stuart would have an impact upon this game.

As luck would have it, he was the batter at the plate when Tebow was thrown out in his ill fated stolen base attempt. Accordingly, Stuart would lead off the next inning, and he would reach on catcher’s interference. Stuart would then score what has been popularized by Mets fans as a Jose Reyes Run.

Stuart would first steal second. After a ground out to the shortstop left him standing on second, he would then steal third. Stuart would then score on an RBI single. At the time, Stuart’s run gave the Scorpions a 5-1 lead. Stuart has now stolen eight bases in ten games.

Stuart found his way on base, and he used his incredible speed and base running ability not just to get into scoring position, but to get to third base with less than two outs.  What made this all the more impressive was the fact that Stuart did this against Orioles prospect Austin Wynns.  This year in the minors Wynns threw out 45% of would be base stealers.  When you can run on catchers who have the ability to throw people out, you know you have a rare gift.

With the Javelinas scoring three runs in the top of the sixth, Stuart’s run would be the deciding run in the game.

The Scorpions play today at 3:35pm ET vs the Glendale Desert Digs in the battle of last place teams.
