The Scottsdale Scorpions lost 9-1 today to the Salt River Rafters, though Tim Tebow had his first multi-hit game of the Arizona Fall League. He went 2 for 3 with a hit by pitch while playing left field.
Tebow, 29, is now hitting .185/.267/.222 with 15 strikeouts and five walks in 59 at-bats. He has shown improvement over the last nine games, going 8 for 30 with two doubles and three walks.
Gavin Cecchini got the start at shortstop for the Scorpions and went 1 for 4 with an RBI. Cecchini, 22, is putting up a .281/.348/.439 slash line with six extra base hits, 11 runs scored, and seven walks compared to just eight strikeouts.
The cold streak continued for Champ Stuart who went 0 for 4 with a run scored and his ninth stolen base. Stuart, 24, has gone 2 for 20 with ten strikeouts over his last five games. The cold stretch has lowered his AFL slash line to .286/.318/.397 with 21 strikeouts and only three walks.
Mets right-handed prospect Marcos Molina allowed one run in one inning of relief. He gave up two hits and a walk while striking out one. Molina, 21, has a 3.78 ERA in 16.2 fall league innings. In that span, he has allowed seven earned runs on 16 hits and seven walks with only eight strikeouts.
The Scorpions play the Peoria Javelinas at 2:35 p.m ET on Tuesday.
There is something about Tebow working his butt off that makes you want him to succeed. If he was 23 I wouldn’t bet against him, but still it wouldn’t surprise me if he has a better than expected season at PSL and forces everyone to take him seriously. He is a big guy – when he gets better he will hit for power.
I know you don’t usually say this about a guy with less than a .500 OPS, but Tebow’s actually doing a bit better than I expected. I mean, obviously it’s not good, but for someone who hasn’t swung a bat for 11 years, it’s better than I expected.
Agreed, I was expecting him to hit below .100, has cut down on the k’s too.
