With the Scottsdale Scorpions trailing the Mesa Solar Sox 3-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth, Gavin Cecchini got the rally started with a lead-off double to start the inning. He would come around to score to tie the game on a Hunter Cole RBI single. The Scorpions rallied continued with them loading the bases with two outs setting the stage for Tim Tebow:
It might not have been a line drive into the gap, but that dribbler down the third base line was enough to get the job done. He was then mobbed by his teammates in-between first and second base. Inarguably, this was the biggest moment in Tebow’s brief baseball career.
It was a big win for a Scorpions team that featured three Mets prospects in the lineup. Here is how they all fared:
- Gavin Cecchini SS 2-5, R, 2B
- Tim Tebow LF 1-4, RBI, BB
- Champ Stuart 0-4
While Cecchini and Tebow were a big part of the Scorpions’ win, Stuart struggled at the plate striking out in three out of his four at-bats. The strikeouts highlight one of the main concerns about Stuart as a prospect. However, those strikeouts still should not overshadow what has been a strong Arizona Fall League campaign for him. Even with the three strikeout game, he is still batting .340/.367/.489.
The Scorpions next game will be against the Glendale Desert Dogs at 4:35pm ET. The game is not scheduled to be televised.
