LHP Thomas Szapucki has been re-assigned to the Brooklyn Cyclones roster. This marks the second time this season Szapucki has been assigned from the Columbia Fireflies to Brooklyn. There has been no explanation provided for the transaction.

Szapucki last pitched on May 16. In the one inning relief appearance he threw a season high 33 pitches. In his inning of work, he allowed one earned on two hits and a walk while striking out three.

So far this season, he has made four starts and two relief appearances pitching no more than two innings. He is 0-0 with a 2.16 ERA, 1.440 WHIP, 5.4 BB/9, and an 11.9 K/9.

It’s very likely the pitch limits are related to Szapucki having undergone Tommy John surgery in July 2017. It should be noted it has been over 20 months since the surgery, and he has yet to crack the 40 pitch or three inning mark.

The Cyclones season will not begin for another three weeks. It will be interesting to see if Szapucki will be on the active roster for the Cyclones or another affiliate by then.
