Arguably, Tomas Nido made a bigger leap this season than any other prospect in the entire Mets farm system.  The 22 year old catcher won the Florida State League batting title, and he was named the 20th best prospect in the Florida State League by Baseball America.

The Mets 2012 eighth round draft pick played 90 games this season hitting .320/.357/.459 with 23 doubles, two triples, seven homers, and 46 RBI. He was named as both a mid-season and post-season Florida State League All Star.

With this season, he has certainly made a case for the Mets to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft this offseason.  Before that decision is made, Nido is going to play for the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League alongside fellow Mets prospects David Roseboom, Corey Taylor, Matt Oberste, and Champ Stuart.

Nido was recently ranked as the Mets 14th best prospect in the Mets Minor’s Midseason Top 50.

Mets top prospect Amed Rosario was ranked as the number one prospect in Florida State League which you can read about here.
