Last night, St. Lucie Mets catcher Tomas Nido went 3-4 raising his batting average from .308 to .316.  With that impressive performance, Nido passed Chace Numata, a catcher in the Phillies organization, in the race for the 2016 Florida State League batting title.

After a 3-5 performance today, the final day of the season, Nido raised his batting average to .320 thereby cementing the batting title.

The batting crown puts the final touches on what has been a breakout performance for Nido. The 22-year old hit .320/.357/.459 on a season that has seen his profile on the rise. Recently, the Mets 2012 eighth round draft pick was named MMN’s Midseason 14th best prospect.

He was named a midseason and end-of-the season all-star by the Florida State League. He’s going to play in the Arizona Fall League to get some more at bats where he will be part of the taxi squad, meaning he can only play on Wednesday and Saturday.

With Nido’s profile on the rise, it is important to note, the Mets need to add him to the 40 man roster this offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft.
