On April 30th this year, the St. Lucie Mets beat the Bradenton Marauders 9-2 in big part due to Mets first base prospect Matt Oberste who was 3 for 5 with six RBI. He had two singles and a grand slam in the 9th inning to put the game out of reach.

Not only did Oberste tie a career high with the six RBI and hit just his second career grand slam but the big game seemed to ignite his whole season. Before April 30th he was hitting .228/.262/.404 with 11 strikeouts in 14 games to start the year. From the 30th on he hit .312/.374/.434 with just 62 strikeouts compared to 32 walks in 97 games.

Matt was the Mets 7th round pick in 2013 out of the University of Oklahoma. He was forced to the designated hitter role this year with St. Lucie because of prospect Dominic Smith. Of the 111 games he played in the 2015 season, 75 were at DH and only 33 at first base. In his first two pro seasons he played almost every game at first base (81) with two at third base.
