According to reports, Travis Blankenhorn had traveled to New York to join the Major League team. With Dominic Smith being placed on the IL, there is a spot available on the Major League roster.

While Blankenhorn is not on the 40 man roster, another roster move will not be required as yet because the 40 man roster is not full. As an aside, the same remains true when Jacob deGrom is activated off the 60 day IL.

Blankenhorn, 25, is having a strong year with Triple-A Syracuse. Over 71 games, he has a 116 wRC+ hitting .276/.340/.479 with 17 doubles, 12 homers, and 43 RBI. He was the International League Player of the Week for the week ending June 26.

Blankenhorn is versatile in the field. This season, he has played 30 games at second and 32 games in the outfield. He has also served as the DH in eight games.

Blankenhorn is a left-handed hitter who is hitting .280/.367/.555 with 13 doubles, 11 homers, and 35 RBI off right-handed pitching over 196 plate appearances. With his success against right-handed pitching, he could slot in as a DH option against right-handed pitching.

If Blankenhorn is indeed recalled, this would be his second stint with the Mets. Last season, after he was selected off waivers from the Seattle Mariners, he would appear in 23 games for the Mets.

Over four separate stints in the majors, Blankenhorn was 4-for-23 with two doubles, a homer, and four RBI. Over his last stint, he was 1-for-8, and he was sent down for the final time as Francisco Lindor was activated off the IL.

On April 5, on the eve of the 2022 season, Blankenhorn was designated for assignment by the Mets. The move was made to make room for John Curtiss on the 40 man roster.
