Yovanny Rodriguez

Baseball America released its updated Top 30 Mets prospects list, and two recent international Mets signees cracked the rankings.

Catcher Yovanny Rodriguez, who now has the largest signing bonus in Mets franchise history, is ranked 13th. Fifteen spots behind Rodriguez was outfielder Edward Lantigua, who was ranked 28th overall.

Rodriguez, 17, officially signed with the Mets on January 15th after a year of speculation that the Mets would nab one of the top catchers in this year’s international free agency class. Rodriguez is a 6’0″ right-handed hitter who weighs in at 175 lbs. The Venezuelan-born catcher was ranked by Mets Minors as the Mets’ best catching prospect heading into the 2024 season, marking the first season since the Mets signed Francisco Álvarez in 2017 that the Mets’ current starter was not the team’s best catching prospect. Rodriguez is a dual-threat catching prospect, with a strong right-handed bat that can grow into solid power and maintain a plus defensive profile behind the plate.

Lantigua, a 6’3″ outfielder from the Dominican Republic, just made Baseball America’s Top 30 Mets prospects list. Lantigua signed with the Mets on the 15th for $950,000, giving him the second-highest bonus of any Mets signee. Overall, the 17-year-old received the 43rd-highest signing bonus of any 2024 international signee. The righty should be able to grow into a strong frame with solid power while manning the outfield with a strong arm.
