The New York Mets have announced Zack Wheeler will be activated from the seven day injured list to make tonight’s start. To make room for Wheeler on the roster, the Mets are optioning RHP Walker Lockett to Triple-A Syracuse.

Lockett had been called up to start in place of the injured Wheeler against the San Francisco Giants. Lockett put together his best ever Major League start allowing one earned on five hits over five innings while walking none and striking out three. With that performance, Lockett picked up his first ever Major League win.

So far this season, he has made three starts for the Mets going 1-1 with a 7.82 ERA, 1.421 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9, and a 6.4 K/9. With Syracuse, Lockett has made six starts and one relief appearance going 1-2 with a 3.92 ERA, 1.436 WHIP, 1.8 BB/9, and a 4.8 K/9.

Depending on what the Mets do at the trade deadline, it is very possible Saturday’s game will not be Lockett’s last start of the season for the Mets. In the event Wheeler, Noah Syndergaard, or Jason Vargas are moved at the trade deadline, Lockett will have an opportunity to make starts over the final two months of the season.
