Due to Zack Wheeler landing on the injured list, the New York Mets will need a fifth starter for Saturday’s game against the San Francisco Giants, and the Mets have announced RHP Walker Lockett will be officially recalled on Saturday to make that start. Lockett was obtained by the Mets this offseason along with Sam Haggerty in a trade with the Cleveland Indians in exchange for Kevin Plawecki.

This will be Lockett’s third start with the Mets this season. In his previous two, he was 0-1 with an 11.74 ERA, 1.696 WHIP, 3.5 BB/9, and a 7.0 K/9. The better of his two starts came at Philadelphia on June 25. In that game, he allowed four runs over 5.1 innings while walking two and striking out four.

With Syracuse, Lockett has made six starts and one relief appearance. He is 1-2 with a 3.92 ERA, 1.436 WHIP, 1.8 BB/9, and a 4.8 K/9. He is coming off a strong start against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders where he allowed one run on eight hits over 5.1 innings while walking one and striking out four.

In other minor league news, LHP David Peterson was placed on the seven day injured list. In his last start, he lasted just 3.1 innings on a wet field allowing four earned on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts. In addition to Peterson, Syracuse OF Rajai Davis was placed on the seven day IL as was Columbia Fireflies RHP Christian James.
