D Smith

Who’s Hot:

Jairo Perez – St. Lucie

The Third Baseman from Venezuela has been as hot as the corner he plays. For the week of April 30th-May 6th, he only hit .500 (9 for 18) with two doubles, a triple, three home runs, seven RBI, scoring seven runs, and slugging 1.222. Perez signed as a free agent this offseason after spending 2013 with the Kansas City T-Bones in the independent American Association.

T.J. Rivera – St. Lucie

Rivera – The Bronx native is on our list once again, batting .409 for the week (9 for 22) with two doubles, one home run, five RBI, and four runs scored. His week was highlighted by his May 1st performance at Bradenton where he went 4 for 5 while scoring three runs, hitting one double, one home run, and driving in three.

Beck Wheeler – St. Lucie

Wheeler is in his 4th year in the Mets organization, having stepped up one level each year. The 25 year old right hander made two appearances out of the pen, throwing four innings, allowing just one hit, one walk, and no runs while striking out seven batters and earning one save.

Gavin Cecchini – Savannah

The first round pick in the 2012 draft has been on a tear of late and is currently in the middle of a nine game hitting streak. For the week of April 30-May 6th, he hit a sparkling .440 (11 for 25) while scoring four runs, hitting two doubles, and one triple. His hitting streak continued on May 7th when he went 2 for 5 with a triple and a home run. He’s only 20 years old and the majors are still several levels away, but with the big team’s Shortstop Struggles… one has to wonder, how long before Gavin Glenn Christopher Joseph Cecchini shows up in Queens?

Dominic Smith – Savannah

The 2013 first round pick got off to a slow start, but he’s definitely picked it up as of late. From April 30-May 6th, he went 8 for 18 (.444) with two doubles, five walks and a .565 OBP. He kept his hot bat going on May 7th when he went 3 for 5, raising his average over the last eight days to .478 with an OBP of .571. Yeah, that’s hot.

Who’s Not:

Jared King – St. Lucie

The 5th round pick in the 2013 draft has had a tough week at the plate, going just 3 for 22 (.136). On the season, he’s hitting only .232, but he has been collecting his walks (21 in all) with an OBP of .375 on the season.

Chris Flexen – St. Lucie

The 2012 14th round pick had another rough week, picking up his 3rd loss of the season on May 4th against Rome, lasting 5 innings, allowing eights hits, walking four, allowing five runs (all earned) and one home run. After five starts, Chris is 1-3 with a 7.50 ERA and a WHIP of 1.96.
