The Minnesota Twins have signed former Mets infielder Wilfredo Tovar to a minor league deal. He was outrighted off the Mets 40-man roster on November 5th and a day later he elected for free agency. He played the whole 2015 season for the AAA Las Vegas 51’s.

Tovar, who is known for his defensive prowess at shortstop, hit .283/.327/.356 in 102 games in AAA for the 51’s. He hit 15 doubles, three homeruns, knocked in 42, and had a career high 30 stolen bases. In 2013, he made his Major League debut with the Mets in 2013 going 3 for 15 in seven games. Went 0 for 3 in 2014 for the Mets which was his last big league stint.

Last week former Met farmhand Albert Cordero signed a minor league deal with the Detroit Tigers. He played the entire 2015 season in AA with the Binghamton Mets hitting .190/.234/.247 in 47 games as the backup catcher. He has the rare talent of being able to both hit and throw with both hands.

They join the group of Joe Benson, Martires Arias, Josh Rodriguez, Dillon Gee, Brandon Allen, Anthony Recker, and Adam Kolarek as players who finished the 2015 season in Mets system that have signed minor league deals with new teams this offseason.
