Winter Ball Recap: Wuilmer Becerra Keeps Hitting As Playoffs Start

Mets outfield prospect Wuilmer Becerra hit .405 during the Venezuelan Winter League regular season and started off the postseason going 2 for 4 last night with a run scored. He had worked himself up to third in the lineup during the last week of the regular season but was moved down the nine spot in his first playoff action. He also pushed his hitting streak to eight games.  His team, Tigres de Aragua, lost 7-5 after going to the 9th inning with a 5-4 lead. They are now down 1-0 in the best-of-7 series.

Asdrubal Cabrera continued his winter ball struggles going 0 for 4 last night in his first playoff game. He was just 3 for 19 during regular season play for the Leones del Caracas. Leones lost 8-1 in game one of the Venezuelan playoffs.

In game five of the Round Robin playoffs in the Dominican League the Tigres del Licey beat Toros del Este by a score of 16-5. Alejandro De Aza was in the initial lineup for the Toros but was a late scratch and did not appear in the game. Jenrry Mejia made his first appearance of the postseason allowing one run on two walks and a hit in his one inning of action.

Xorge Carrillo went 1 for 3 with a run scored last night for the Aguilas de Mexicali in their 5-2 victory giving them a 2-0 series lead in the first round of the Mexican League playoffs. Carrillo was 2 for 3 with the game-winning RBI double in game one.

In the first game of the Puerto Rican League playoffs the Criollos de Caguas beat the Indios de Mayaguez 2-1 in ten innings. Mets minor leaguer Johnny Monell was 3 for 5 as the catcher for the Criollos. The offensive for the Indios was paced by Mets minor league utility guy T.J. Rivera who went 3 for 5 while playing third base.
