Last night Mets outfield prospect Wuilmer Becerra was 1 for 3 for the Tigres de Aragua in the Venezuelan Winter League. The 21-year old has gone 9 for 24 with four runs scored, one RBI and has hit safely in six of his seven starts. He played right field last night but has played two games in left field after not playing there during the past three seasons in the Mets minor league system.
He recently did an interview with a local journalist Jhosmari Blanco in Venezuela and here are a few tidbits from Wuilmer:
- He has been working on his concentration when selecting pitches, plus his defense in left field, a place where he said not to be very used to playing, but nevertheless every day apply the tips offered by the coach to continue to improve.
- “I feel much more comfortable as the manager Eduardo Perez has given me the opportunity and I’ve done well.”
Mexican League
Aguilas de Mexicali
Xorge Carrillo – 1 for 3, 8 for 19 over last five games (.278/.342/.391 with three homeruns, 17 RBI in 133 at bats). Here you can watch homerun he hit on Thursday.
The Dominican League and Puerto Rican League were both off last night with the regular season in the Dominican ending on December 21st. Juan Lagares is on hot streak while Johnny Monell has been hitting well all winter and you can read about both here.

I enjoy these thanks
You’re welcome!
I can’t wait for this time next year to see how Becerra continues ti impress. Have to think he’s the incumbent to take over for Granderson in a few years. That’d be real nice.
He’s the gift that the Twins keep on giving

..what a steal Sandy made
hope Sandy is doing well
That would be great because other than him, Lindsay, and Nimmo the outfield prospects in the Mets system are very limited.
Yeah, it doesn’t look too promising – but I bet they address it in this draft. And who knows, one of the younger guys could take a step forward in 2016. That said, Conforto seems entrenched. Granderson has two more years. And at the very least, Lagares could be a decent 4th OFer. Nimmo should be up by July. So if, we can sign a “Span” type, we could buy ourselves another year – at the very least.
The Jays. 🙂 But yeah, seriously, that trade would make me terrified to trade with Sandy.
thanks for the correcftion
Ya the good news is they seemed to be set in LF for a long time, RF in for two years, and atleast have two long-term options with Lagares/Nimmo. Just need a stop gap type player in CF like you said.
