Mets prospects Brandon Nimmo (#17) and Desmond Lindsay (#24) are among the 40 best center field prospects in baseball according to Baseball America in their latest positional breakdown. The top five are Byron Buxton (Twins), Andrew Benintendi (Red Sox), Lewis Brinson (Rangers), Anthony Alford (Blue Jays), and Bradley Zimmer from Indians is fifth.

Nimmo comes in at number 17 on the center fielder list after what was arguably his worst season in pro ball in 2015. He hit .269/.362/.372 with 16 doubles, four triples, five homeruns, and 25 RBI for St. Lucie, Binghamton, and the Las Vegas 51’s. He missed a month with a knee injury early in the season and sat out the final couple of games after getting hit in the face with a baseball.

The 2011 first round pick certainly has the range to stick in center field and gets pretty good jumps on the ball. Has shown an average arm in the outfield where he played all three spots last year but a majority (72 of 99) games in center. He is currently recovering from a partially torn tendon in his left foot and hopes to be ready for the start of the minor league season.

The Mets selected Lindsay with their first pick (second round) of 2015 draft from the Out-of-Door Academy in Florida where he played corner infield. He has been a center fielder in the pros since day one and while being an extremely gifted athlete, he is still learning the position. I recently interviewed the 19-year old which you can read here. He hit .263/.364/.386 in his first 114 pro at bats in 2015 between the GCL and Kingsport Mets.

Honestly was a little sruprised to see Nimmo that high with it being known that BA has soured on him, they dropped him out of Top 100 overall prospects after ranking him 45th before the 2015 season. Great to see Lindsay make this list after only 35 minor league games under his belt. Both Nimmo and Lindsay made our own list of the Mets Top 5 outfield prospects.

Previous Baseball America positional rankings included: Six Mets shortstops, Dominic Smith fifth at first, and Steven Matz the third best lefty pitcher.
