Champ Stuart

Most of the attention has been focused on Tim Tebow and what he’s done on and off the field in his short Arizona Fall League stint so far. That hasn’t stopped the Mets prospect playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions from playing well.

Last night Champ Stuart played center field and led off for the Scorpions in what was in AFL debut. He went 2 for 5 with two singles while stealing second base twice. As always, the key stat for Champ is strikeouts which he did just once last night.

Lefty reliever David Roseboom continued his great 2016 season with 1.1 perfect innings with two strikeouts in his first fall league action. Roseboom is following up a regular season in which he was arguably the Mets best minor leaguer reliever after posting a 1.87 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and held Eastern League opponents to a .170 average for the Binghamton Mets.

For the second straight game Tebow was in left field, batting seventh and went 0 for 3. He did walk to reach base for the first time and collected his first run batted in with a productive groundout. He played all nine innings in left with one catch. Tebow is now 0 for 6 without hitting the ball out of the infield.

The Scorpions fell to the Salt Rivers Rafters 6-4 with Angels pitching prospect Victor Alcantara taking the loss. Yankees prospects Greg Bird and Miguel Andujar each had two hits for the Scorpions as they drop to 1-1 on the season.

In the first Scorpions game of the year Gavin Cecchini went 2 for 3 with a walk, run scored, double and three RBI while playing shortstop. Matt Oberste played first place and was 0 for 3 with a sac fly. Corey Oswalt got the start but allowed four runs in two innings. St. Lucie Mets closer Corey Taylor pitched 1.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Full recap here.

The Scorpions play their third game of the season today at 3:35 PM ET against the Peoria Javelinas.
