Minor League Baseball on Monday night revealed their MiLB Award Winners for the 2023 season, including the All-MiLB Prospect 1st and 2nd teams.

Jett Williams, rated by MLB Pipeline as the Mets third best prospect, was named to the All-MiLB Prospect Second Team. He was rated by MMN as the Mets fourth best prospect

Williams, drafted in round one at pick No. 14 in the 2022 MLB Draft split the 2023 season between the Low-A St. Lucie Mets April 3 – July 31), High-A Brooklyn Cyclones (July 31 – September 11), and finished the season in Double-A Binghamton (September 11 – end of season). He combined to hit .263/.425/.451, with a .876 OPS between the three levels. Williams was walked 104 times across 121 games played, walking in 86 percent of games he played. Williams also accrued 55 RBIs and 81 runs scored in 2023 and had 22 doubles, eight triples, and 13 home runs on the season.

Williams, 21-years old, stole 45 bases and was caught just 7 times. This ranked second in the MiLB and is credited to him being a plus-runner with an athletic build.

Noted above was his high walk rate of 104 walks, which allows him to finish second in the minors. He also ranks top 25 in OBP (.425), and wRC+ (145) across all three levels and in just his first full MiLB season.

These numbers are what earned the 19-year old Williams the ability to climb the ranks as quickly as he did. He impressed the Mets with his ability to put the barrel on the ball and to avoid bad pitches, which many rookies do struggle with.

Williams was at Citi Field on Thursday and spoke to the media. One of the things he mentioned was how surprised he was to make it up to Double-A as quickly as he did. “I didn’t think I was going to be moving through the system this quickly,” he said. “I feel like it’s very organized, very good organization to be with. I love each and every one of the staff members at every level.”
