As reported earlier, outfielder Carlos Cortes has been moved from Triple-A Syracuse to Doube-A Binghamton. Like Cortes, outfielder Quinn Brodey will also be assigned from Syracuse to Binghamton.

Brodey, 26, played in 27 games for Syracuse so far this season. After Brodey struggled over the first month of the season, he appeared to be set to break out with a five game hitting streak at the beginning of the month of May. Unfortunately, he followed that five game hitting streak with an 0-for-14 stretch which has left him hitting .152/.202/.317 on the season.

With the recent transactions, it would appear there is more opportunity for both Cortes and Brodey to play everyday. Notably, Cortes and Brodey are both left-handed hitters who have been shielded from left-handed pitching this season. In fact, both of them have only faced left-handed pitchers three times this season.

There also won’t be the same logjam in the outfield in Binghamton that there was in Syracuse. Part of the reason there is less of a logjam is the announcement the Mets have released outfielder Antoine Duplantis.

Duplantis, 25, was the Mets 2019 12th round draft pick out of Louisiana State University. Duplantis’ claim to fame with the Mets organization was being part of the 2019 Brooklyn Cyclones team which won the final New York Penn League Championship.

Duplantis played a key role in the championship game. With the Cyclones down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Duplantis hit a game tying RBI triple. He would then score on Yoel Romero‘s RBI single. As a result, not only did Duplantis get the big hit, he would be the final player to score a run in the history of the New York Penn League.

Unfortunately, Duplantis struggled the past two seasons with Double-A Binghamton. This season, Duplantis hit .132/.184/.198 with a double, triple, homer, and seven RBI over 26 games.
