New York Mets prospect Ronald Hernández was named as a year-end Florida Complex League All-Star. Hernández was the only Mets Rookie League prospect who would be named an All-Star. Those leagues comprise the Arizona Complex League, Florida Complex League, and the Dominican Summer League.

While Hernández,19, predominantly caught (25 games) and played some first base (5 games), he made the team as the designated hitter (5 games). In essence, his making the All-Star team at that position was a way of recognizing his outstanding season.

Hernández was acquired by the Mets from the Miami Marlins along with Marco Vargas in the David Robertson trade. After the trade, MMN would rank Hernández as the Mets 18th best prospect. These were a part of a series of trades at the deadline which saw the Mets vastly improve their farm system.

Between his time with the Marlins FCL affiliate and the Mets, Hernández would play 45 games at the level. He hit .295/.462/.449 with 10 doubles, a triple, four homers, and 38 RBI. With the Marlins, he had a 171 wRC+, and he had a 150 with the Mets.

After Hernández’s strong stint in the FCL, he was promoted to Low-A St. Lucie. He would have two extra base hits over eight games. We should anticipate Hernández will begin his 2024 season with St. Lucie.

While Hernández was the only rookie level prospect to be named an All-Star, he was not the only Mets prospect to be named a Minor League All-Star. Previously, Christian Scott was named an Eastern League All-Star, and Brooklyn reliever Paul Gervase was named a South Atlantic League All-Star.
