Ronny Mauricio had an outstanding Dominican Winter League season for Tigres de Licey of the Dominican, and he was recognized as the league MVP. He did this after a dominating season where he hit .287/.335/.468 with 15 doubles, two triples, five homers, and 31 RBI. He was also successful in 11 of his 13 stolen base attempts.

In 47 games for Licey, he led the league in hits (54) doubles (15), and RBI (31). He was also second in homers (5), stolen bases (11), and OPS (.803). He was also third in average (.287). He did this while being the fourth youngest player on the team (6.8 years younger than league average) and the youngest position player on his team. Despite that, as the stats showed, Mauricio was great.

The power display was all the more impressive when you consider the deep dimensions of Estadio Quisqueya, the home ballpark for LIDOM. It is 411 to center and 383 to the power alleys. To hit one out there, you really have to earn it, and that is something Mauricio truly did.

In many ways, Mauricio showed the tools which had him ranked as MMN‘s third ranked prospect entering the 2022 season. He has also been prominently featured on various top 100 prospect rankings.

One interesting tidbit for Mauricio is in addition to playing shortstop, he would also play third base and one game at second. With Mauricio likely starting the 2023 season with Triple-A Syracuse, that is a very important note. After all, shortstop is well taken care for now and the ensuing seasons by Francisco Lindor meaning Mauricio will need to make a position change if he were to make to the majors with the Mets.

With Mauricio’s MVP performance, you can see that coming sooner rather than later. Honestly, if he hits like this displaying that type of power, the Mets will certainly find a position for Mauricio to play.
