There has been much excitement for the New York Mets for the 2023 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. The organization has seven picks in the first five rounds with a bonus pool of $8,440,400 to allocate among their 13 draft selections.

Because of their payroll, the Mets do no select until 32. After that, they received three compensatory draft picks. They received a third round selection (101st overall) for their failure to sign Brandon Sproat out of Florida last year. Of note, the Mets can only draft him again this year with permission from the player. The Mets also received two fourth round compensatory picks. The Mets received the 134th overall pick for Jacob deGrom signing with the Texas Rangers, and they received the 135th overall pick when Chris Bassitt signed with the Toronto Blue Jays.
