Las Vegas 51s
The 51s are getting hot at the right time, with the playoffs right around the corner. They enjoyed a 6-1 week, and didn’t register that one loss until last night’s series finale at Cashman Field. Las Vegas is currently the hottest team in the PCL Southern division, winning eight of their last 10 ball games. They now have a two game lead over the Sacramento River Cats with just over a week to play.
Binghamton Mets
Binghamton is officially in cruise control now that they’ve clinched both a playoff spot and a division title. They went 3-4 this week, taking two of three from Bowie, but losing three of four to Akron. They’re 5-5 in their last ten games, but still hold a 12.5 game lead over the next closest team in their division, the Trenton Thunder.
St. Lucie Mets
St. Lucie is beginning to hit a wall in the second half of this season. Despite winning their first two games last week, they finished it with six consecutive losses. They played three doubleheaders and unfortunately, got swept twice. They’re now sitting in a third place tie, six games out of first with a second half record of 29-29.
Savannah Sand Gnats
A 3-6 week has put the Sand Gnats under .500 in the second half standings. They now own a 29-31 record, and are nine games back of Augusta. They’re eliminated from second half contention, but winning the first half championship has already secured them a spot in the playoffs. Savannah has struggled most on the road, going 14-19 away from Grayson Stadium since the SAL All-Star break.
Brooklyn Cyclones
Brooklyn continues their playoff push this season with a 5-3 week. Things didn’t start great when they lost three of five to Staten Island, but a weekend trip up to Vermont was a fun one, as they swept the Lake Monsters. They’re now only a half game out of first behind Aberdeen, and are one of the hottest teams in the division. The Renegades have won four in a row, and are only two games behind Brooklyn for second place.
Kingsport Mets
The K-Mets had a 4-2 week to continue keeping pace with the Greeneville Astros at the top of the APP West division. Before losing games on Saturday and Sunday, Kingsport was riding a four-game winning streak this week. Their slow start to the season has been erased with stellar play in the middle, and they’re only 0.5 games out of first place. They’ve found more success on the road (18-12 record) than at home (17-15) this season.
GCL Mets
Another 2-4 week have continued to keep the GCL Mets squad in last place of the GCL East division. While this is Rookie Ball and winning isn’t the main focus, I was hoping they’d perform a little better than this. However, they don’t discriminate whether they’re playing as the visitor or the home team; they’ve put together a 9-19 record in each situation.
